Kawachi Fujien 河内藤園 is a privately own park famous for its Fuji 藤 flowers (Wisteria).
The owner does not want too many tourists which would disturb the growth of the plants, so there is not any advertisement nor official web site. The park opened only during the Fuji 藤 (Wisteria) flower blossom period between late April and mid May. Entrance fee is 1000 yen. There is no public transport going to the park. The nearest bus station is over 3km away.
The park's Wisteria tunnel was chosen by a foreign web site as 1 of the "10 Beautiful Places In The World That Actually Exist" (ref: https://www.pinterest.com/planedia/10-beautiful-places-in-the-world-that-actually-exi/ ).
The park consists of a 110 meter long Wisteria tunnel, a 80 meter long smaller tunnel, a huge Wisteria trellis 藤棚 at a flat platform, a Wisteria trellis 藤棚 at the entrance slope, a larger Wisteria dome, a smaller Wisteria dome, and more.
Unfortunately, my trip coincides with the local Golden Week holidays, so I expected there would be lots of visitors. The information I found indicated that the park opens at 09:00. I arrived at 08:30, fully expect to be the first few people to go in. However, I found the park has already opened and there were hundreds of people inside.
People keep flooding in during my stay at the park. When I left, I found the traffic congestions caused by cars queuing to visit the park much longer than the 3km walk to the bus stop. I fully expect there would be more than 10,000 people visiting per day during the Golden Week period.
The nearest train station is Yahata station 八幡駅 of JR Kagoshima Main Line JR鹿児島本線. One need to take a 25 minutes bus ride from the train station to middle of nowhere, then walk for an hour to reach the park.
