Hokkaido - Kushiro Tsurumidai
Tsurumidai (Crane-seeing-terrace) is a winter feeding ground for wild Tanchou (Japanese Crane, as known as Red-Crowned Crane)
found by Ms Watabe Tome in Tsurui Village, Kushiro. At first, Tome-san voluntary fed then near extinct Tanchou in her own land 40+ years ago.
In recognition of her effort in protecting the near extinct wild life, local government grant her the use of a nearby vacant ground previously
own by a primary school, and appointed her as the official Tanchou feeder. Currently she is over 80 years old and still patrols Tsurumidai daily.
The nearest train station is Kushiro station of JR Senmou Main Line.
