Kyoto-fu Uji-shi Uji
The nearest train station is Uji Station of JR Nara Line and Uji Station of Keihan Uji Line.
Ujigawa is the main river running in the city.
Byodoin is a Buddhist temple located in the city just west of the Ujigawa. The most famous building in the temple is the Phoenix Hall (Hououdo). This building is shown in the back side of the Japanese 10 yen coin, while the Phoenix statue on the top of the building is shown in the back side of the Japanese 10000 yen note. In December 1994, UNESCO listed the building as a World Heritage Site as part of the "Historic Monuments of Ancient Kyoto". The Phoenix Hall, the great statue of Amida inside it, and several other items at Byodoin are national treasures of Japan.
