Mont Saint Michel abbey, built on an island. The island could only be reached by foot when the tide is low. Mont Saint Michel, which can be reached now by a purpose built road to link the island to the mainland. Mont Saint Michel

Viewing from the top of Mont Saint Michel abbey back to the road linking to the mainland. When in tide, only the middle part of the road is above the sea level. Viewing from the top of Mont Saint Michel abbey to the opposite side. Note the abbey's shadow. The sea in this image is only a few inches deep, and some of the slightly higher ground is waterless. Below the shallow water is mud and quick sand. If your eyes are good, you can see several people standind in the middle of the sea. The whole region will be flooded with sea water when the tide comes.
